💖 Welcome & Our Promise to You

SoCal Mental Math Education Center (“SoCal Mental Math,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a family-run abacus & mental math school serving Southern California families since the 1990s. Because we work with children every day, we take your family's privacy very seriously.

This Privacy Policy explains, in plain language, what information we collect when you visit our website or enroll your child, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using our website or registering for our classes, you agree to the practices described below.

1📝Information We Collect

We only collect information that helps us communicate with you, schedule classes, and run our school. This includes:

  • Contact info — parent/guardian name, email, phone number, and preferred campus.
  • Student info — child's first name, age or grade, and class preferences (only what you choose to share on our trial / enrollment forms).
  • Inquiry messages — anything you write to us through the contact form, email, or phone.
  • Basic technical data — page visits, browser type, and approximate location, collected automatically when you visit our website.

We do not collect Social Security numbers, payment card details, or government IDs through this website.

2How We Use Your Information

We use the information you give us to:

  • Reply to your questions and schedule free trial classes.
  • Enroll your child and keep parents informed about classes, holidays, and competitions.
  • Send occasional school announcements (event reminders, schedule changes, awards).
  • Improve our website and understand which pages families find most useful.

We will never sell your personal information to advertisers or third parties.

3🧒Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Our website is intended for parents and guardians. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Any information about a student is provided by a parent or guardian during inquiry or enrollment.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13 without parental consent, please contact us at Info@socal-mentalmath.com and we will promptly delete it.

4🤝When We Share Information

We share information only when needed to operate our school. Specifically, with:

  • Our teaching staff — so the right instructor knows your child's level and schedule.
  • Competition organizers — when registering students (with your written consent) for regional, national, or international abacus competitions.
  • Trusted service providers — such as our email provider or website host, only to deliver services to you.
  • Legal authorities — only if required by law or to protect the safety of our students and staff.
5🍪Cookies & Analytics

Our website uses a small number of cookies to remember your preferences and to measure general site traffic (such as which classes pages families view most often). We may use privacy-friendly analytics tools that record only anonymized statistics.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time. The site will still work, though some convenience features may be limited.

6📸Student Photos & Event Coverage

From time to time, we take group photos at competitions, ceremonies, and community events. We may post these on our website or social media (Facebook, Instagram) to celebrate our students' achievements.

We always do our best to avoid identifying minors by full name. If you would prefer that your child does not appear in any school photos, please let us know in writing — we will respect your wishes and remove any existing photos upon request.

7🛡️How We Protect Your Data

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical measures to protect the personal information we hold. Our website is served over secure HTTPS, and access to family records is limited to authorized staff.

No system is 100% secure — but we are committed to protecting your family's information as carefully as we protect our own.

8⚖️Your Rights & Choices

You can, at any time:

  • Access the personal information we have about you or your child.
  • Correct any inaccurate information.
  • Delete your information (subject to school recordkeeping requirements).
  • Opt out of email announcements at any time by replying “unsubscribe.”

California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect and to request deletion.

9🔗Third-Party Links

Our website may link to external sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Google Maps, or competition pages. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites — please review their own privacy policies before sharing information.

10🔄Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or in the law. The “Last updated” date at the top of the page will always show the most recent revision.

Significant changes will be highlighted on our homepage or shared with enrolled families directly.
